Zappanale 19 UpDOOT!
Hell Yeah! Anti
Agressive Action Band, also known as "Underground Sensation",
because Anti Agressive Action Band was not confusing enough,
coughed up a delicious hairball of a set to open Zappanale 19 this
year. Despite earlier rumours, perpetrated by this here website,
the lineup for AAAB was actually:
Stephen Chillemi: sorpano
sax, percussion, thingamagoop, vocals
Killissa Cissoko: keyboards, alto sax, vocals, dancing
Mark Rafile: drums, hat
Jerry Outlaw: the best damn guitar playing, HOTCHA!!
Annemarieke Schoonderwaldt: viola, vocals
Alex Prust: bass guitar

SPRING 2008 UpDOOT!
IT IS ALIVE!!!! Cordelia Records has
officially released "20
Extraordinary
Renditions of The Idiot Bastard Son". Thanks go out to our
favorite idiot bastrd, Andrew
Greenaway!
His last cover-comp production was comprised of surf-rock versions of
Zappa songs, and was called "Lemme Take You To The Beach".
As for DOOT!'s contribution: It definitely AIN'T ROCK. The tracks
run the gamut from direct homages to musical inkblots. WHO is
this
Idiot Bastard Son? Bush? Dweezil? Ourselves? Get
yourselves a copy and find out!
UNDERGROUND
SENSATION
Just in case you forgot that DOOT! is a state of mind and not so much a
"band", Stephen Chillemi presents "Underground Sensation". With
their sights set firmly on Zappanale 19, and blowing minds in Bad
Doberan, Germany in August of 2008, Underground Sensation is officially
under way.
Surveillance images of Kilissa Cissosko, Joe
Nolan, Preston Parrish, Stephen Chillemi, and Mark Raffile at the
Rancho Frio undisclosed location. No wombats or migratory birds
were harmed in the acquisition of this image.
Expect more details shortly, but suffice it to say that the Rancho was
much less Frio thanks to the Underground Sensation.
2007 NEWS
In other news: The DOOT! expeditionary force recently returned from
Zappanale 18 in Bad Doberan, Germany. It was one of the best
Zappanale's yet. The music was at an extremely high level, the
weather was fantastic, the organization was also excellent.

Pete
did some band photography for the good folks at United Muttions, and Stephen
did double duty working in the ARF Shop and performing Electricity with
Kimono Draggin'

DOOT!
DOOT! is a movable feast of sound piloted by
percussionist Stephen
Chillemi. Known as possibly the one of the hardest rocking free-jazz
duos, or the
jazzyest, spaceyest, power rock duo, Stephen teams up with bassist Pete
Brunelli
for a celebration of "music from the other side of the fence".
Always on the lookout for likeminded musicians, DOOT! is as much a
self-contained entity as it is a foundation for further
instrumentation. In 2006 DOOT! had the great fortune to perform
with guitarist and Project/Object frontman Andre Cholmondeley for a
string of shows culminating with an appearance at Zappanale 17.
In a galaxy far away we also found a fantastic collaborator in
keyboardist Nate Trier. We look forward to continuing these, and
developing many more alliances in the fight againt boring, plastic
music.
Check out what Peter van Laarhoven (United Mutations) had to say about
us
HERE
and see our band entry at United Mutations
HERE.
We met up with Peter at Zappanale 16 and gave him a CD/R with some raw
tracks from rehearsals. In October of 2005 we followed
up with a more refined mix of material. He has some nice things
to say about both.
DOOT!Noot: DOOT! was originally DÜT! until our friends from
Germany
reminded
us
that Ü is pronounced "er" - making the band name "DERT" (roughly),
which is cool but kinda misses the point. While hangin gout in
the merch tent at Zappanale 16, Stephen told
Zappa-alum Ike Willis about a guy he knows that pronounces "dude" as
"doot", and immediately Ike labelled the project as "those doots"... It
stuck. Thanks, Ike!
Peter van Laarhoven mentions the fact that all of the material he has
from us is recorded live. That is true. There is
some editing for length, and an occasional fader move, especially on
the "up from the
basement" demo, and some post-production work (occasionally to
excess). But everything is recorded live. Pete's bass setup
uses a combination of sound-on-sound
looping and digital delay techniques, so motifs can be set up and
improvised upon. He also uses a Roland Handpad for additional synth and
percussion parts. Stephen might be playing soprano sax and drums
at the same time. Nate could be looping, playing keys, and making space
noises... Andre sounds like a full band *before* the rest of the band
starts playing... So do not be skeptical... it is all live.
